The Blackstone River, one of 14 American
Heritage Rivers, flows between Worcester, Massachusetts and
Providence Rhode Island. The John H. Chafee Blackstone River
Valley National Heritage Corridor tells the story of the
river's role in starting New England's textile industry and
the American Industrial Revolution.

Your day begins at leisurely pace, with
coffee and muffins at the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center
then view the award-winning film "Hidden in the Blackstone
Valley" which describes the Valley's history |

11:00 am Bike the
Blackstone Valley Bike Path |
|
Autumn is a perfect season to tour the
valley by bike. Bike through history along the Blackstone
Valley Bike Path. Cycling from Cumberland to Lincoln pass by
historic mill villages, scenic farms, and the Blackstone
Canal, a former transportation canal. Rental bikes will be
provided by Blackstone Valley Outfitters and included in the
per person cost. |

in Stone |

Pause along your journey for a visit at the
Captain Wilbur Kelly House Museum in Lincoln, RI. Housed in
a former mill superintendent's cottage, an expert guide will
bring the Valley's canal era to life for you and take you
through fascinating exhibits that detail the valley's
transportation history. After the tour relax with a picnic
lunch on site. |

Woonsocket |
|
Continue your bike tour in the afternoon
along the Blackstone Canal and River to Woonsocket. Here
your bus will meet you to continue your historical
adventure. |

2:30 pm Museum of
Work and Culture |
|
Your day will end with a tour
at the Museum of Work and Culture. This award-winning,
interactive museum tells the story of the daily lives of the
immigrant families who lived and worked in the mill villages
of the valley. For the millions of people who left French
Canada to work in the textile mills, adjusting to the
summons of the factory bell was just one of the many
cultural and labor changes they faced. |
