The Blackstone River, one of 14 American
Heritage Rivers, flows between Worcester, Massachusetts and
Providence Rhode Island. The John H. Chafee Blackstone River
Valley National Heritage Corridor tells the story of the
river's role in starting New England's textile industry and
the American Industrial Revolution.
Celebrating the French Canadian traditions
of the Blackstone Valley, this week our itinerary features a
day of arts & crafts, Dynamite contest, dance of French
Canada, historical tours and food.

Your day will begin at leisurely pace, with
coffee and muffins at the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center
then view the award-winning film "Hidden in the Blackstone
Valley" for a preview of the Valley's rich history. After
the film, your group will head North to Woonsocket. |

Experience the culture of the
French-Canadians that settled in the Blackstone Valley with
an array of food, arts & crafts, and entertainment along the
banks of the Blackstone River. Help us decide who makes the
best Dynamite at the Dynamite Cook-off. |

Explorer |

Enjoy a 45-minute river cruise aboard the
Blackstone Valley Explorer and discover the cultural
heritage of the French and Franco-Canadians who came to
settle in Woonsocket in the 19th and early 20th centuries to
work the mills and factories. See a number of local
landmarks and discover the city's interesting past, present
and future |

Your day will end with a tour at the Museum
of Work and Culture. This award-winning, interactive museum
tells the story of the daily lives of the immigrant families
who lived and worked in the mill villages of the valley. For
the millions of people who left French Canada to work in the
textile mills, adjusting to the summons of the factory bell
was just one of the many cultural and labor changes they
faced. |
