Cultural Heritage Celebration

The Blackstone River, one of 14 American Heritage Rivers, flows between Worcester, Massachusetts and Providence Rhode Island. The John H. Chafee Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor tells the story of the river's role in starting New England's textile industry and the American Industrial Revolution.

Celebrating the Asian Heritage of the Blackstone Valley, this week our itinerary features a day of Dragonboat Racing and entertainment at the 9th annual Rhode Island

Dragonboat Race and Taiwan Festival - Saturday September 6, 2008.

8:30 am Blackstone Valley Visitor's Center

Your day will begin at leisurely pace, with coffee and muffins at the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center then view the award-winning film "Hidden in the Blackstone Valley" for a preview of the Valley's rich history. After the film, your group will board a shuttle to the Festival Pier.

9:00 am - 4:00 pm  Dragonboat and Taiwan Festival 

Experience the Rhode Island Chinese Dragon Boat Races and Taiwan Day Festival. Nothing compares to the rhythm of the pounding drum beat and the splashing sound of 22 paddlers racing to the finish line.

Relish in the Asian culture of with dance, music, arts and crafts, and cuisine. Sponsored by the Pawtucket Arts Festival, Taiwan ROC, Memorial Hospital, the Rhosde Island Sports Council, the Taiwan Visitor Association, NY Taipei Economic Cultural Office Boston and the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council; this is perfect way to end your summer.

11:00 am  A River's Rebirth

Enjoy a riverboat cruise of the Valley Falls wilderness area aboard the Blackstone Valley Explorer. Hear the remarkable comeback story of this American Heritage River that once powered the waterwheels of industry. Herons, ospreys, fish and other wildlife are returning to the waters of the Blackstone River.

12:30 pm   Dining and Gaming at Twin River

You know the river's history, now it's time dine, play and win at New England's newest gaming and entertainment complex. You have your choice from an Irish Pub to Buffet style dining. Spend the rest of the afternoon trying your luck on the gaming floor with over 4,700 slot machines.

This is a guided tour.

Tour Operator Price: $11 (includes $5.00 per person to participate in the Chinese Dumpling Eating Contest) .

The price is based on a minimum of 35 people.
