The Blackstone River,
one of 14 American Heritage Rivers, flows between Worcester,
Massachusetts and Providence Rhode Island. The John H.
Chafee Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor
tells the story of the river's role in starting New
England's textile industry and the American Industrial
Revolution.
Celebrating the Celtic
heritage of the Blackstone Valley, this week our itinerary
features a day of Celtic music and dance at the 2nd annual
Blackstone River Theatre Celtic Festival
Saturday, July 19, 2008. |

Before heading to the festival enjoy
relaxing riverboat cruise aboard the Blackstone Valley
Explorer as a narrator tells the remarkable comeback story

View the Valley Falls Marsh. Hand-dug by Irish Immigrants as
a mill pond, Rhode Island's largest fresh water marsh is now
habitat for herons, fish and other wildlife returning to the
shores and waters of the river that once was heavily
polluted during the height of the industrial revolution. |
