The Blackstone River is the centerpiece
of the 400,000 acre Blackstone River Valley. One of 14
American Heritage Rivers, the powerful Blackstone flows
between Worcester, Massachusetts and Providence Rhode
Island. As a special kind of place called a national
heritage corridor, it tells the story of the river's
role in starting New England's textile industry and the
American Industrial Revolution.
Take your grandparents to the
Blackstone River Valley. A fun, intergenerational
one-day tour of the museums, riverboat and other
attractions of this National Historic Park. Perfect for
school age child who want to spend time with their
grandparents together that neither of you will forget.

Your day begins at the Blackstone Valley
Visitor's Center where you will view the award-winning film.
This movie will help you understand why Congress decided
that the Blackstone Village was so important in American
history and turned it into a National Park in 1986 then
designated it as an American Heritage River - its one of the
14 American water-ways to have this distinction. |

Come Discover Another American Revolution with Us
|

While this one may not be celebrated as it
should be, its impact was certainly enormous. Slater Mill
Historic Site is where the American Industrial Revolution
began. During this child-oriented, but still fascinating
tour, you'll see flax grown and spun into linen, a
waterwheel turning 19th century machinery, discuss child
labor and how this still unsung 19th century revolution
changed virtually every aspect of our daily lives. |

Enjoy lunch of hotdogs and hamburgers at
Daggett Farm and visit the farmyard animals, floral gardens,
and a community vegetable gardens.

A Turn-of-the-Century Carousel |

You will tour Slater Park where there is a
restored 1898 Charles Looff Carousel. This Looff carousel is
known as a speed carousel. It is the country's largest
collection of Loof leaping and standing horses. |

Witness the Rebirth of a River |
|
The 46-mile Blackstone River was the
second-most powerful river in America when the early textile
mills began harnessing its waters for power starting in
1790. It was also the first river to die from industrial
pollution. Take a cruise aboard the Blackstone River
Explorer and hear the river's story from an ecologist. |
