New England's National Historic Park Area

The Blackstone River is the centerpiece of the 400,000 acre Blackstone River Valley. One of 14 American Heritage Rivers, the powerful Blackstone flows between Worcester, Massachusetts and Providence Rhode Island. As a special kind of place called a national heritage corridor, it tells the story of the river's role in starting New England's textile industry and the American Industrial Revolution.

Take your grandparents to the Blackstone River Valley. A fun, intergenerational one-day tour of the museums, riverboat and other attractions of this National Historic Park. Perfect for school age child who want to spend time with their grandparents together that neither of you will forget.

9:00 am Hidden in the Blackstone Valley

Your day begins at the Blackstone Valley Visitor's Center where you will view the award-winning film. This movie will help you understand why Congress decided that the Blackstone Village was so important in American history and turned it into a National Park in 1986 then designated it as an American Heritage River - its one of the 14 American water-ways to have this distinction.

10:30 am  Come Discover Another American Revolution with Us

While this one may not be celebrated as it should be, its impact was certainly enormous. Slater Mill Historic Site is where the American Industrial Revolution began. 2:30 pm  Witness the Rebirth of a River

The 46-mile Blackstone River was the second-most powerful river in America when the early textile mills began harnessing its waters for power starting in 1790. It was also the first river to die from industrial pollution. Take a cruise aboard the Blackstone River Explorer and hear the river's story from an ecologist.
