The Blackstone River, one of 14 American
Heritage Rivers, flows between Worcester, Massachusetts and
Providence Rhode Island. The John H. Chafee Blackstone River
Valley National Heritage Corridor tells the story of the
river's role in starting New England's textile industry and
the American Industrial Revolution. |

Your day begins at leisurely pace at the
Blackstone Valley Visitor Center then view the award-winning
film "Hidden in the Blackstone Valley" which describes the
Valley's history. |

Mill Historic Site |

At Slater Mill Museum you will explore
three authentic historical buildings and garden. Slater Mill
interpreters dressed as men and women of the 19th century -
all eager to share their knowledge of the period and the
impact the Industrial Revolution had on America. |

Rebirth |
|
Enjoy a riverboat cruise of the Valley
Falls wilderness area aboard the Blackstone Valley Explorer.
Hear the remarkable comeback story of this American Heritage
River that once powered the waterwheels of industry. Herons,
ospreys, fish and other wildlife are returning to the waters
of the Blackstone River. A picnic lunch will be served
aboard the boat.

Stone |

Visit the Captain Wilbur Kelly House in
Lincoln, RI, a former mill superintendent's cottage. A tour
guide will bring the Valley's canal era to life for you and
take you through fascinating exhibits that detail the
Valley's transportation history. After your tour enjoy ice
cream or coffee at the Blackstone River Bikeway Visitor
Center before returning home. |
