Hidden Treasures of the Valley

The Blackstone River, one of 14 American Heritage Rivers, flows between Worcester, Massachusetts and Providence Rhode Island. The John H. Chafee Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor tells the story of the river's role in starting New England's textile industry and the American Industrial Revolution.

9:15 am Grace Note Farm

This hidden treasure is nestled in the northwest corner of the Blackstone Valley. Savor light breakfast fare followed by a brisk walk on nearby wooded trails.

11:15 am St. Ann's Arts and Cultural Center

"A treasure to be seen and saved", view the finest fresco paintings found in North America, "America's Sistine Chapel."

12:30 pm Picnic Lunch at the Blackstone River State Park Visitor Center

Built in 2006, this state park visitor is the gateway to the Blackstone River Bikeway. Enjoy a picnic boxed lunch before visiting the Captain Wilbur Kelly House and Blackstone Canal State Park. Dunkin Donuts and Baskin Robbins Ice Cream on site.

2:00 pm Captain Wilbur Kelly House

View a preserved section of the historic Blackstone Canal that was once used for transportation. Today a segment of the Blackstone River Bikeway runs on top of the old towpath.

The Wilbur Kelly House transportation museum demonstrates the history of the river and canal as a means of transportation from the time of the Native American peoples to the pinnacle of the Industrial Revolution.

3:30 pm Smith Appleby House Musuem

Tour this former one-room stone-ender built (circa 1696) by Elisha Smith, the grandson of John Smith " The Miller", cartographer of the NE coastline and a member of Roger William's founding party of six men who left the Massachusetts Bay Colony to settle in Providence.

Tour Operator Price: $30

The price is based on a minimum of 40 people.
