Fall Harvest Tour

The Blackstone River is the centerpiece of the 400,000 acre Blackstone River Valley. One of 14 American Heritage Rivers, the powerful Blackstone flows between Worcester, Massachusetts and Providence Rhode Island. As a special kind of place called a national heritage corridor, it tells the story of the river's role in starting New England's textile industry and the American Industrial Revolution.

9:00 am  Jaswell Farm

Begin a bracing fall day in the Blackstone Valley with a freshly pressed cup of cider and a baked item made on the premises. Watch a cider making demonstration and if you want, pick some apples to take home

10:30 am  Blackstone Valley Explorer

The river becomes a veritable carpet of color as it mirrors the foliage lining the shore as you cruise the second most powerful river in the nation. Spot herons and other wildlife as you learn the colonial and industrial history of this now quiet, urban river whose waters were harnessed for waterpower at the dawn of the 19th century sparking the American Industrial Revolution.

12:00 pm  Lunch at the English Ye Old Fish and Chips

This family-owned restaurant has been a Woonsocket institution since 1922 and their fish and chips are considered the best in Rhode Island. They use an old Yorkshire, England family recipe and now offer baked fish and shellfish dishes as well.

2:00 pm   Riverbend Farm in Uxbridge

Meet your river guide at this restored 18th century barn turned interpretive center on a section of the Blackstone Valley Canal. Enjoy a narrated walk along the canal and towpath focusing on the history of the short lived canal and the beauty of the natural surroundings.

4:00 pm  Eaton Farm Confectioners

Wind up your day in the valley watching how chocolate is made with recipes dating back to 1892. Shop and sample the famous "Blackstone Valley Lust Bar." This alone may bring you back.
